Description

eCourse Group Rate Button0.2 ASHA CEUs are offered for this online speech pathology workshop.

Course Format: Text - including samples & references.

Even for children who possess the technical ability to read, difficulties in following written directions may arise from language and/or cognitive deficits. This e-course describes in detail seven problem areas that may lead to breakdowns between the Writer (teacher/clinician) and the Reader (student):

  • Content
  • Execution
  • Mechanics
  • Assumption
  • Expression
  • Production
  • Miscellaneous Factors

Solutions for the Writer and strategies for the Reader will be discussed for each problem area. Participants will use this information to compose original lessons. Sample lessons are provided as models, which may be used for clinical and educational purposes. Included are three appendices. Appendix A is a brief protocol to alleviate difficulties with written directions. Appendix B is an informal assessment tool for written directions. Appendix C is a bibliography for further reading.

This e-course usually follows e39–Verbal Directions: Identification and Remediation of Deficits in School-Age Children. While it is helpful to complete "Verbal Directions" first, it is not necessary.

Please note:  This eCourse is set up to be flexible to accomodate all schedules.  You do not have to complete this program in one sitting.  You can access the course materials as many times as you need to in order to complete all the sections.

Course Objectives

At e-course conclusion, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify at least five possible problem areas experienced by children when responding to written directions.

  4. Identify two or more solutions for each of seven problem areas.
