Northern Speech is an ASHA continuing education provider offering ASHA online CEUs.  This speech pathology online course is offered for 0.2 ASHA CEUs.

I've experienced many of the same frustrations that I assume brings you to this e-course. A resident is referred, screened and evaluated. As a professional with years of experience I design the appropriate course of treatment. I skillfully guide my patient through every step, achieving goals right on schedule and document all the progress made. Staff and family see dramatic changes as the result of my exceptional therapeutic intervention. I make preparations to discharge. I train staff and family. I leave written instructions in multiple sites and formats. I know the staff understands because I conducted an in-service program on this very intervention process only six months ago. I discharge the patient. All too often, unfortunately, it becomes painfully apparent in a matter of a few days that the application of what I have suggested or requested or insisted be done, is inconsistent, inaccurate, or ineffective—if not ignored all together. Does this sound familiar?

This e-course is designed to offer some suggestions and approaches to carryover with support staff that may change your experience and reduce your frustrations. Participants will learn to:

Analyze the purpose of their staff training to improve effectiveness.

Design effective staff training while achieving current productivity standards.

Implement techniques to educate, equip, empower and evaluate staff for successful carryover.

 

Please note:  This eCourse is set up to be flexible to accomodate all schedules.  You do not have to complete this program in one sitting.  You can access the course materials as many times as you need to in order to complete all the sections. 

Course Objectives

At e-course conclusion, participants will be able to:

1. Analyze the purpose of their staff training to improve effectiveness.

 

2. Design effective staff training while achieving current productivity standards.

 

3. Implement techniques to educate, equip, empower and evaluate staff for successful carryover.

 

 

 A score of 80% or better must be received on the post-test in order to
receive a certificate of completion.

Author Profile

Lou Eaves, M.S., CCC-SLP, has a B.S. degree in Speech Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, M.S. degree in Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi, and M.S. degree in Speech Pathology from Louisiana State University. She has 30 years experience in direct clinical services and administration of rehabilitation services for geriatric patients. Employment settings have included private practice, hospital, outpatient, home health and long-term care. Mrs. Eaves is currently in private practice providing direct clinical services in long-term care, consultation services related to dementia services, and product development for service delivery. Her publications include Brain Storms, A cognitive–linguistic stimulation program to manage clients with dementia as well as online educational materials related to dementia and dementia interventions.

First Content Focus: Occupational Therapy Process: Intervention

 

Per our longstanding procedures with ASHA, we submit CEU information to ASHA quarterly, so your CEUs will be reflected as completed on the last day of that quarter.  For instance, if you complete a course on December 7th, 2011, it will be reported to ASHA in January 2012, and it will be reflected in your ASHA account as completed on December 31st, 2011.  However, for submitting to your state board or for your own records, you will receive a certificate of completion with the actual completion date.
