This is an introductory level e-course intended for speech-language pathologists. This e-course takes a unique perspective to cognitive rehabilitation by merging cognitive rehabilitation interventions with motor learning theories. Provided will be practical application strategies aimed at improving functional communication in cognitively impaired patients. Course Objectives
At e-course conclusion, participants will be able to:
- Discuss traditional and contemporary cognitive rehabilitation techniques.
- Apply, successfully, motor learning theory to patients with cognitive impairments.
- Develop individualized programs—from evaluation to treatment—for cognitively impaired clients.
- Discuss practical applications for overcoming the three largest barriers to learning: attention, memory, and awareness.
A score of 80% or better must be received on the post-test in order to
receive a certificate of completion.
Author Profile

Mike Studer, PT, MHS, NCS, received his physical therapy degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1991 and his MHS degree from the University of Indianapolis. He is board certified as a Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy by the APTA. He currently works for Salem Hospital, Salem, Oregon, where he specializes in neurologically impaired clients. Mr. Studer has presented many courses on cognitive processing and has published an article on the subject in PT Magazine. He is a guest lecturer at Pacific University in Oregon and The University of Missouri on the topics of motor control, motor learning and cognitive impairment.

Thomas J. Slominski, MA, CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist who has been in private practice since 1972. Mr. Slominski is a nationally recognized expert regarding third-party documentation issues. For the past 15 years he has presented documentation seminars to SLPs and other healthcare professionals. Of the over 8,000 participants who have attended Mr. Slominski's seminars, 96% said they would recommend his seminar to a colleague. Also, Mr. Slominski is the author of Medicare Guidelines Explained for the SLP and editor of two other Medicare documentation manuals: Medicare Guidelines Explained for the PT and Medicare Guidelines Explained for the OT.
