Description

Northern Speech is an ASHA continuing education provider offering ASHA online CEUs. This speech pathology online course is offered for 0.2 ASHA CEUs.

This course is designed to help therapists and teachers understand the current research and management approaches for auditory processing disorders (C)APD as evident in children on the autism spectrum (ASD) and children with other developmental learning issues. The instructor will review new neuroscience research that helps us understand how the brain processes auditory information like speech as well as causative factors known to contribute to (C)APD is in children. The course will conclude with presentation of evidence-based interventions from several sources that have been shown to improve auditory processing and effect brain function.

Course Objectives

At e-course conclusion, participants will be able to:

  1. Utilize neuroscience research to identify children at risk for auditory processing disorders (C)APD
  2. Develop evidence-based intervention plans for children on the autism spectrum (ASD)
  3. Develop evidence-based intervention plans for children with developmental disorders other than ASD

 

 

 

 

A score of 80% or better must be received on the post test in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Author Profile

Martha S. Burns, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a renowned author and clinician specializing in language and brain development. Dr. Burns is an ASHA Fellow, serves on the faculty of Northwestern University in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and has been a consultant to Chicago area school districts for over 30 years. She has authored three books, a test, and over 100 book chapters and articles on language and brain development, language disorders, and interventions for autism, auditory processing disorders and language disorders.

Per our longstanding procedures with ASHA, we submit CEU information to ASHA quarterly, so your CEUs will be reflected as completed on the last day of that quarter.  For instance, if you complete a course on December 7th, 2011, it will be reported to ASHA in January 2012, and it will be reflected in your ASHA account as completed on December 31st, 2011.  However, for submitting to your state board or for your own records, you will receive a certificate of completion with the actual completion date.
