This online speech therapy CEU course is offered for 0.4 ASHA CEUs.  The contents of this video e-course are the same contents as seen on the Kaufman Speech To Language Protocol Instructional DVD Set. For over 25 years, children who struggle to speak have been benefiting from the innovative methods of the Kaufman Speech To Language Protocol, or K-SLP.   In this comprehensive 4-hour video training program, Nancy Kaufman will teach viewers step-by-step and in specific detail how to employ the K-SLP strategies to increase speech intelligibility for children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and other speech sound disorders (SSD). Watch over 40 video examples of children of different ages and abilities interact with Nancy as she teaches the skills of combining consonants and vowels into words, and words into functional expressive language.  (Enrollment in this e-course will expire 30 days after purchase. Course Objectives

At e-course conclusion, participants will be able to:

1. Understand and implement a specific evaluation method to include elements of the Kaufman Speech Praxis Test for Children in order to identify error patterns and to establish syllable shape goals.
2. Understand and implement a specific treatment method — the Kaufman Speech to Language
   Protocol (K-SLP) — to help children to become effective vocal/verbal communicators.
3. Understand and implement strategies of employing phonological processes to simplify words, thereby establishing successive approximations as a temporary, functional means of communication.
4. Understand and implement cues, fade cues, script functional language and utilize powerful reinforcers for carryover skills.
5. Understand and implement home programs to increase practice for carryover skills.

Author Profile

Nancy R. Kaufman, MA, CCC-SLP, is the owner and Director of the Kaufman Children's Center for Speech, Language, Sensory-Motor, and Social Connections, Inc. located in West Bloomfield, MI. Since 1979, Nancy has dedicated herself to establishing the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP), a treatment approach to help children become effective vocal communicators. She serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA) and is the Speech and Language Pathologist Consultant for the Parish School and Carruth Center in Houston, TX. Nancy was the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and she received the 2010 Outstanding Alumni Award from Michigan State University College of Communication Arts & Sciences. The Kaufman Children's Center (KCC) received the Clinical Service Award from the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Nancy is also an honoree of the Lawrence Technological University Leaders & Innovators program.

She is the author of the Kaufman Speech Praxis Test for Children, the K-SLP Treatment Kits for Children, the K-SLP Workout Book, the K-SLP Mutt Family Language Builder, the K-SLP Instructional DVD Training Program, and co-author of K&K Sign to Talk: Nouns and K&K Sign to Talk: Verbs. Nancy lectures nationally and internationally on the subject of childhood apraxia of speech and other speech sound disorders in children. Many specialists in the field of applied verbal behavior (AVB) have adopted the K-SLP for children with autism spectrum disorders. Families from around the United States and the world travel to the KCC to participate in intensive and specialized therapy programs. Nancy received her B.A. at Michigan State University and M.A. at Wayne State University, having been awarded a graduate assistantship. The KCC continues to grow and has earned a reputation for excellence, warmth, and successful outcomes. Nancy has three grown children and resides with her husband in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Per our longstanding procedures with ASHA, we submit CEU information to ASHA quarterly, so your CEUs will be reflected as completed on the last day of that quarter.  For instance, if you complete a course on December 7th, 2011, it will be reported to ASHA in January 2012, and it will be reflected in your ASHA account as completed on December 31st, 2011.  However, for submitting to your state board or for your own records, you will receive a certificate of completion with the actual completion date.
