The Kaufman Kit 1 is a best-selling kit that is ideal for building motor-speech coordination for children with apraxia of speech. It incorporates systematic and progressive word simplification techniques to shape and expand verbal communication while controlling for oral-motor difficulty throughout the treatment program.

Kaufman Kit 1Target Ages:

2 to 8 years old.

Outcomes:

Quickly builds motor-speech coordination and allows children with apraxia to begin processing immediately from a simple core vocabulary toward becoming effective vocal/verbal communicators.

How much time is required?

About 15 minutes to complete a lesson.

Kaufman Kit 1 Target Sounds: /p, b, m, t, d, n, h/

The Kaufman apraxia kits employ a systematic treatment approach that controls the level of motor-speech difficulty by simplifying word pronunciation patterns.  Each Kaufman speech card displays  a series of “successive approximations” of the target word based on least physiological effort. The Kaufman apraxia “word shell” approach is highly effective for quickly building motor-speech coordination and  allows children with apraxia to begin progressing immediately from a simple core vocabulary toward becoming effective vocal/verbal communicators.

The Kaufman (K-SLP) Treatment Kit 1 contains 225 visual referent speech cards targeting the pivot syllable shapes that children with apraxia of speech need to master to become effective vocal/verbal communicators. The accompanying 52-page manual explains the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP) methods and how to get children started on the road to combining consonants and vowels to form words.

Children who are having difficulty with the production, synthesis, and/or sequencing of words with /k, g, f, s, sh/ and blends /s, r, l/.  (Visual referents most appropriate for children ages 2-6.)

Kaufman Kit 1 Cards - USE

Each card breaks down the target word into a series of successive word approximations based on least physiological effort. These "word shells" provide a verbal avenue by which children communicate at their own skill level with success!

Customer Reviews

"I work in the schools and my biggest success was the parents giving me the best compliments as they couldn't believe the success received with increased intelligibility...using these Kits! I can't thank you enough!"
- Speech-Language Pathologist

"My son is still on Kit 1, but he has made HUGE gains with the K-SLP methods. We purchased Kit 1 and Kit 2 for home use. He has gone from 35% accuracy to 100% on VCV (vowel-consonant-vowel) in a very short time!"
- Mother

"I work with children with Autism and they enjoy working with Kit 1. I have seen huge improvements in overall communication and intelligibility...just seeing their ability to communicate more effectively has been wonderful!"
- Speech-Language Pathologist

"My son is still using Kit 1 with his SLP, and we also have a set at home to practice with. It has been such a great tool for him! He started therapy off at 2 & 1/2 years old and was essentially nonverbal. Now, he's three and has been making slow, but steady progress! He loves the cards!"
- Parent

"I have Kits 1 & 2 along with the Workout Book. I had a little guy who was starting with Kit 1 in August and we are into Kit 2 now. He loves the cards and the "puppy book", especially Moppy! He loves making up his own phrases with the cards. One of his sisters saw me at the store and she came up and hugged me and said 'Thank you for teaching my brother to talk! We can understand him now!'"
- Speech-Language Pathologist

"I love Kit 1 - and have used it several times over the years with toddlers and preschoolers. I find it gives them so much success and confidence - and the parents just love it! It really 'unlocks' something that leads to a growth in vocabulary and communication skills!"
- Speech-Language Pathologist
