Author

Lisa Fornataro-Clerici, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist employed by Heritage Valley Health System, The Medical Center Campus in Beaver, Pennsylvania. Lisa specializes in the treatment of tracheostomized and laryngectomized patients. She has over 20 years of direct patient experience during which time she has developed an expertise in the areas of communication and swallowing. Lisa has presented information on patients with tracheostomy tubes and ventilators both nationally and internationally. She has contributed publications on communication issues related to both laryngectomized and tracheostomized patients and continues to conduct clinical research with tracheostomized patients. Her publications include the resource manual, Clinical Management of Adults Requiring Tracheostomy Tubes and Ventilators


Thomas A. Roop B.Ed, RRT, RCP, is an Associate Professor of Respiratory Therapy and Program Director of the Respiratory Therapy Programs at the Community College of Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, PA. Tom also is founder and program director of the Institute for Careers in Critical Care at the Community College of Allegheny County in affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Children's Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He has over 20 years of experience in Critical Care and education. Tom has extensive experience in airway management of the intubated and tracheostomized patient, respiratory trauma care, as well as acute and longer-term ventilator management. He also continues to conduct clinical research in this area and has contributed a publication in JSLHR. His other publications include the resource manual, Clinical Management of Adults Requiring Tracheostomy Tubes and Ventilators.
