SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:

This seminar will discuss the syndromes and conditions commonly associated with medical frailty or compromise in elderly patients with dysphagia. The seminar will review salient features of the physical examination and chart review, pertinent lab values in Failure To Thrive (FTT), instrumental assessment, and management of the adult FTT patient. Further discussion will include the Speech-Language Pathologist's critical role in assisting the patient, his/her decision maker, and the medical team in the decision-making process relative to artificial nutrition and hydration. Discussion will include risks and benefits of artificial nutrition and hydration, effects of starvation and dehydration, quality-of-life considerations, and resources available to Speech-Language Pathologists serving the terminally ill.




Cancellation Policy & Late Registration

Registration Cancellation Policy:

Tuition will be refunded less a $25 processing fee if emailed notification is received by NSS up to two weeks prior to the seminar date. Two weeks to 72 hours prior to seminar date: 50% refund; 72 hours or less: no refund. NSS reserves the right to cancel the event up to 7 days prior to the seminar date. If cancelled by NSS full tuition refunds will be issued. Substitutions are permitted if NSS is notified in advance by phone or email.

Late Registration Fee:

Add $20 to tuition rate if registration is received within
2 weeks of the seminar date.

Speaker Profile

Joseph Murray, PhD, CCC-SLP, BRS-S, is a researcher, author and international lecturer who specializes in the assessment, treatment, and management of dysphagia, including FEES.  He is author of the Manual of Dysphagia Assessment in Adults. Dr. Murray is Chief of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. He is also currently vice chairperson for the Specialty Board on Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.
