SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:

Northern Speech is an ASHA continuing education provider. This speech pathology seminar is offered for 1.0 ASHA CEUs. This seminar presents strong evidence for a new direction in dysphagia management and is a must attend for all speech-language pathologists who evaluate or treat adults with dysphagia in any clinical setting. Currently, universal standards for swallow evaluation terminology, measurement, and reporting methods do not exist. The MBSS while a clinically useful tool, remains a subjective test. Evidence, rather than opinion, should guide clinical decision-making.

This seminar introduces the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile, or MBSImP™©. Built on the findings of a rigorous, five-year study the MBSImP is a research-based, standardization of the MBSS. For the first time, the MBSImP provides the means for clinicians “to speak the same language” across the entire dysphagia care continuum: acute care, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, and outpatient. The MBSImP provides for MBSS results to be communicated in an evidence-based manner that is consistent, specific, and accurate.

Participants will learn how the MBSImP assesses the integrity in each of 17 critical components of swallowing which together provide an objective profile of the physiologic impairment affecting swallowing function. Learn how the MBSImP can be utilized to manage patient data, auto generate assessment reports, and contribute to a global research registry. This seminar also serves as an excellent preparatory course for those planning to become “Registered MBSImP Clinicians” via the MBSImP online training. See below.

Become a Registered MBSImP Clinician: The only way to become a Registered MBSImP Clinician is to complete the MBSImP Web-Based Training, which is separate from this above seminar and worth an additional 2.1 CEUs. Those attending this CE Seminar will receive a $200 credit toward enrollment in the MBSImP web-based training. Learn more at www.northernspeech.com/MBSImP. The web-based training is open only to speech-language pathologists.
