DESCRIPTION: This speech pathology conference is offered for 1.2 ASHA CEUs. This clinically focused conference will examine a range of cognitive disorders that occur after acquired acute brain injury (TBI), as well as disorders of the aging brain, including Alzheimer's dementia. The most recent clinical research on cognitive rehabilitation from the field of neuropsychology will be presented and used to evaluate treatment options that hold most promise for positive functional outcomes. The implications of the demands placed on a patient's memory systems during treatments will also be highlighted, as well as a rationale for selecting specific memory systems for specific therapy tasks. New techniques to increase attention for task completion will also be presented.
