SEMINAR DESCRIPTION: Presented by a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist, this seminar provides functional, evidence-based, and easily implemented speech and literacy interventions that maximize the effectiveness of the clinician and the educator in the real world setting. Children struggling with articulation and motor-planning errors often struggle with literacy skills as well. This dynamic seminar will introduce participants to the brain's four processors: orthographic, phonological, meaning, and context. Participants will learn why proficient literacy skills cannot be achieved unless the four processors are synchronized, and why it is so very vital to activate the orthographic processor early in a child's educational experience. Learn how activating the orthographic processor with printed cues during therapy and classroom activities can quickly remediate challenging articulation errors, support language skills and develop a literacy foundation, all simultaneously. Incorporation of the strategies into individual and group intervention settings as well as RTI applications will be discussed. Also explained will be how orthographic instruction uses a step-by-step natural learning progression to address complex speech/language and literacy disorders. The interventions are highly effective for preschool and early elementary students, students with special needs, English-language learners, economically disadvantaged children and children with communication disorders. This seminar will provide functional and easy ways to collaborate goals between the SLP, Educators and Parents to ensure progress made during speech and literacy interventions translates to progress in the general education classroom. The ultimate goal of this seminar is to provide busy SLPs, Educators and Parents with more effective and more efficient tools to improve speech, to boost foundational literacy skills and, subsequently, to enhance the lives of children. **Please see PAST PARTICIPANT COMMENTS tab above**

Past Participant Comments
Comments from Past Seminar Attendees "I wish everyone had the opportunity to hear Keli's presentation! She is very passionate about helping children and extends that motivation to others." "It makes me wish I knew this 30 years ago when I began working in the schools." "Keli is the best speaker I have ever heard... everyone should attend this conference." "Liked that both teachers and SLPs were able to benefit from the material." "Very knowledgeable. Showed how to implement skills learned in class into therapy." "Can't wait to go to work to incorporate what I learned." "Wonderful, energetic, and extremely functional." "Great workshop and ideas that I can use during therapy and I liked the fact that we could take the ideas to teachers." "Keli has lots of information that I can take back and put to use. Because Keli works in the schools, she has hands on experience and knows what is needed to present." "What SLPs are looking for is a functional, practical approach. This was superb and the approach will help me to deliver my therapy and be more successful. This approach will have a dramatic positive influence on my program." "Good mix of practical knowledge and research-based info. Excellent ideas — implement-ready — nicely organized." "I can immediately incorporate activities into therapy. Great websites!" "Fantastic presenter! Thanks for being on the same page as the rest of us and understanding what we need!" Comments from Speech-Language Pathologists "I attended your conference in February in Indianapolis. I have one student who I was particularly "stumped" with and I began using your program with him. What a difference! His DIBELS scores for phoneme seg have gone from 0-30 since and alphabetic principal from 0-20 all [in two months]. ...It is so exciting to see how much he loves the take home books. I have to have one for him each speech session...if not, he is very disappointed. As I walk him back to his Kindergarten class, he stops anyone he can find in the hallway and asks them if they would like to hear him read! You have created quite a unique and EFFECTIVE program. For all the very busy SLPs out there who needed a program like this, I thank you." "This program is highly successful for children that are making little or no progress with traditional therapy. I observed dramatic improvements in my students with Final Consonant Deletion. Literacy Speaks not only remediates difficult errors patterns, it creates phonemic awareness!" "After using the Literacy Speaks materials for only a few weeks, my young students began to enjoy looking for letters. Sounds in a particular word position that children have struggled with for a long time just 'seemed to click.' With the use of the Literacy Speaks program, my students can see where sounds are located in words." Comments from Teachers "I was excited to find that 7 out of 9 of my self-contained special education preschoolers moved onto general education kindergarten and are either no longer eligible for special education services or will receive only minimal support as a result of consistently using Literacy Speaks in my classroom. My 4-year-olds are identifying letters and sounds while increasing their language skills and remarkably, non-verbal 3-year-olds are matching letters. Literacy Speaks has inspired a diverse group of students with a variety of learning and achievement." "It has been absolutely amazing the progress our children have made from this program!" "I have taught at-risk preschoolers for many years, and I am thrilled to say that Literacy Speaks has been the most successful literacy approach I have ever used. Not only did my English speakers make remarkable strides in letter/sound correlations, but even my ESL students markedly improved their literacy and language skills. And the children were fully engaged throughout the process! A great program!" |
