Description

Playful, hands-on therapy tool to help children build receptive and expressive language skills.

This hands-on, playful therapy tool will help children practice speech motor coordination and move into expressive and receptive language skills while controlling for speech motor difficulty.

It is designed to hold attention, and the large format of this interactive puzzle allows children to manipulate the character and object pieces as they learn to formulate 2 and 3 word combinations. The target words included are the earliest and easiest phonemes/syllable shapes and are great for building receptive and expressive language skills.

Ages 3-10 years. Made in USA.

How It Works:

Cue cards direct the Mutt Family Characters into action! Students practice following directions as well as labeling the characters and object manipulatives. “Find Buddy and have him paint.”

Each puzzle piece targets a simple verb, i.e., “Pin”. Students place the character and object pieces onto the corresponding puzzle piece as they learn to formulate 2 and 3 word combinations. “Moppy Pin.” “Moppy Pin Tail.”

Includes familiar simple bisyllabic words from Kaufman Kit 1 for continued speech motor practice. The target verbs on the puzzle contain the earliest and easiest phonemes to produce /m, p, b, t, d, n, h/.

"Kaufman is my staple. Having a variety of programs and skills in which to pull provides the best results for my students. I use the Workout Book and recently acquired the Mutt Family Puzzle. My students never lose interest – still the same targets, but in a variety of structured activities." – Laura L., SLP

Control Level of Difficulty:

Control the level of difficulty by starting with a single puzzle piece (one verb). As the child’s language skills improve, additional puzzle pieces can be introduced giving the SLP flexibility to vary tasks and increase level of difficulty. The full puzzle features 18 scene pieces that interconnect into a 21” x 30” completed puzzle.

In addition, many ABA specialists have adopted the K-SLP for children with autism spectrum disorders.

Nancy lectures locally, nationally, and internationally on the subject of CAS and other speech sound disorders in children. Families from around the country and the world travel to the Kaufman Children's Center for Speech, Language, Sensory-Motor, and Autism Treatment, Inc (KCC) in West Bloomfield, Michigan to participate in intensive, specialized therapy programs. The KCC continues to grow, offering renowned speech, language, occupational therapy, sensory integration, and applied behavior analysis (ABA) center and home-based autism programs.

Nancy served as a member of the Professional Advisory Council for Apraxia Kids for 10 years.
