Ronda Wojcicki recognized the need for an informative, child-friendly introduction to speech therapy and created this children’s book that will serve as an invaluable tool for SLPs, Classroom Teachers, or parent of a child in speech therapy. This 32 page, fully illustrated children’s book introduces and explains the concept of speech therapy while engaging readers. It can be used with children recently diagnosed, children already receiving Speech services, siblings of those children, and in general education classrooms to raise awareness about speech and language impairments and special education. It's also a great 10-minute preview for parents, teachers, principals, and other professionals who want to understand what speech and language therapy is all about.
Plus, Speech Class Rules is multi-dimensional! It is an entertaining, colorful, and inviting storybook for children as well as a teaching tool. Included in the book are questions both for the classroom and home to facilitate further discussion and understanding. There is also a parent page with information regarding speech and language disorders. So, the book is a ready-made lesson plan for any child's first speech therapy session and is THE must-have therapy tool for the school year! Target ages: 5 and up.
"Speech Class Rules is a great book which talks about speech and why kids go." – Natalie M., SLP (Jan. 2019)
"On the first day of speech, using Speech Class Rules is the perfect fun getting to know you/teaching speech rules activity." – Meg E., SLP (Aug. 2018)
"Every Speech-Language Pathologist needs to have this book! I will share it with all of my speech students and fellow professionals." – Christine Sumimoto, SLP, Kaneohe, Hawaii
"Your book came today...I love it! It contains more information about the treatment of communication disorders than I thought it would have, but in a simplistic manner that kids can understand and enjoy. I especially liked the discussion questions at the back of the book. This book would greatly benefit regular classroom teachers, special education teachers, and speech-language pathologists who are trying to explain communication disorders and their treatment to elementary school-aged children." – Kalleen Stoddard, M.S. CCC-SLP - SLP and mother of 2, Corvallis, Oregon
"This book should be read to all kindergarten and first-grade regular ed classes. The teachers, as well as the children, would learn what Speech Pathologists actually do. Finally, a simple, well-written and beautifully illustrated story explaining semantic, syntactic, phonological, pragmatic language and voice disorders. Thank you." – Sheri Rosenthal, M.A., CCC-SLP
