Presenter: Shari Robertson, PhD, CCC-SLP
– S.Q., prior course participant
Remediation for a child with only a few sounds in error is a fairly straightforward undertaking in which error sounds are identified and targeted using motor-based intervention. However, using this approach, children with complex disorders and/or multiple errors may spend years in therapy before there is a substantial change in their overall intelligibility.
This course will assist participants in analyzing the entire phonological system as the basis for effective and efficient intervention. Participants will be guided through a case study using reusable templates with immediate feedback provided after each section. Following this, multiple strategies to address the resulting therapy targets will be demonstrated, including the use of children's literature to address phonological deficits. Participants will gain a wealth of new information that can be immediately applied to children on their caseload. The material presented is for participants working with age groups 24 months to 6 years.
Course is offered for 0.4 ASHA CEUs – 4 Contact Hours.

"Most beneficial takeaway item was: To concern myself with getting students to increase phonemes produced as opposed to always focusing on an accurate production of just a few phonemes. What I liked best: This presentation allowed for practicing the methods discussed by the speaker." M.C. (Apr. 2023)
"The use of an assessment tool was beneficial. The practical application was very concrete." D.G. (Mar. 2023)
"I liked the specific details on completion of a comprehensive analysis." C.W. (Mar. 2023)
"I liked the assessment." S.L. (Mar. 2023)
"Learning how to do independent analysis to help pick efficient therapy targets. I liked the handouts for completing inventories and developing a plan." A.B. (Feb. 2023)

"I liked the step by step method for analyzing the sound system of the student. Well-paced lecture with a chance to stop and try the methods the presenter was talking about." K.N. (Feb. 2022)
"The understanding between traditional and independent analysis was very helpful in viewing what is best for our most unintelligible children. Considering the comprehensive evaluation to include phonemic inventory, phonotactic profile, and phonologic processes along with a traditional approach opens the door for more complete programming." A.H. (Dec. 2021)
"This approach brings greater consideration for the child as we see insurance plans restrict service delivery. 'Putting it all together' was very helpful for the application of concepts being presented in this course. I appreciated the 'hands-on' use of the forms to organize the assessment." A.H. (Dec. 2021)
"I liked everything. Presenter was great!" E.B. (Dec. 2021)

"This course provided a different way to look at evaluating a sound system. Right now, I have a little one that appears to understand and use a variety of language, but so many of her utterances are only CV. This course gave me a different way to think about adding word forms. The forms provided will be a great tool." S.Q. (Oct. 2021)
