This course introduces and reviews the Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) as a tool for visualizing, monitoring and treating swallowing function. FEES is an established procedure with distinctive objective findings and unique practical applications. This course will outline the decision-making process that follows a clinical exam.

Guidelines for selecting FEES or videofluoroscopic instrumentation are presented with a comprehensive review of the laryngoscopic visualization of normal and abnormal swallow function and further in-depth review of patient safety and selection. The learner will understand the equipment used to complete the exam and the steps necessary to gain competency in performance of the exam. The discussion provides essential elements to include in the administration of the examination for confident completion of clinical goals.

Offered for 0.4 ASHA CEUs – 4 Contact Hours.
