The Kaufman Treatment Kit 1 builds intelligibility through a hierarchy of successive approximations based on natural phonological processes. Use this approach to shape and expand verbal communication while controlling for speech motor coordination difficulty throughout the treatment process.
The K&K Sign/Select To Talk builds communication and speech in autistic individuals and others with complex communication needs. Designed specifically for learners and their treatment teams who use multimodal communication to teach requesting with unaided AAC systems (gestures or signs) or with aided AAC systems (picture exchange or speech generating devices). Concurrent with AAC instruction, this approach uses Kaufman K-SLP successive word approximations to improve the functional clarity of verbal vocal production of the items and actions being requested.

Teach children to combine consonants and vowels to form words while controlling for speech motor coordination difficulty. Includes the syllable shapes children need to master to become effective vocal/verbal communicators.

Target Audience
Kaufman Treatment Kit 1: Ages 2 to 12
For SLPs, Behavior Analysts, Autism Specialists, Educators, Parents, and others working with nonverbal young children with ASD and others with complex communication needs. Most appropriate for young children who are not yet vocal imitators. This program will provide a bridge from signing to vocal communication.
K&K Sign/Select To Talk: Ages 2 to 8
For SLPs working with children who are having difficulty with the production, synthesis, and/or sequencing of words with /m, t, b, d, h, n, w, p/. The visual referents are most appropriate for children ages 2-8.

Tamara S. Kasper, M.S., CCC-SLP, BCBA, LBA, is a dually certified behavior analyst and speech-language pathologist who has dedicated her 36+ year career to developing, implementing, and disseminating treatment methods to improve engagement, communication, and speech production in individuals with autism. Mentored by Dr. Vincent Carbone, she became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2006. She partnered with Nancy R. Kaufman to create The K&K Sign/Select to Talk Kit.
Tamara is a past recipient of WISHA’s Clinical Achievement Award and nominee for the ASHA DiCarlo Award. She is a contributing author to the books, “Understanding Ethics in Applied Behavior Analysis: Practical Applications” and “Promoting Language for Learners with Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Guide for Applied Behavior Analysis Practitioners.”
Described by attendees as “inspirational” and “empowering,” she is a frequently invited international lecturer, enthusiastically sharing research and intervention techniques that promote early non-vocal communication skills and social behavioral play chains, promote assent, build functional verbal and vocal behavior via individualized AAC and speech production skills intervention, promote social communication skills, and combine social skills training with physical training. Previous owner/director of The Center for Autism Treatment, Tamara provides consulting, training, products, and workshops through Kasper Enterprises (www.kasperenterprises.net) and also serves as a Director at the Clinical Center of Excellence for Caravel Autism Health.

Since 1979, Nancy R. Kaufman, M.A., CCC-SLP, has dedicated herself to establishing the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP), a treatment approach to help children become effective vocal communicators. The K-SLP has evolved over the years to include the most current research in childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), motor learning, and applied behavior analysis (ABA), and its methods and materials are used by speech-language pathologists worldwide. In addition, many ABA specialists have adopted the K-SLP for children with autism spectrum disorders.
Nancy lectures locally, nationally, and internationally on the subject of CAS and other speech sound disorders in children. Families from around the country and the world travel to the Kaufman Children's Center for Speech, Language, Sensory-Motor, and Autism Treatment, Inc (KCC) in West Bloomfield, Michigan to participate in intensive, specialized therapy programs. The KCC continues to grow, offering renowned speech, language, occupational therapy, sensory integration, and applied behavior analysis (ABA).
Nancy served on the Professional Advisory Council for Apraxia Kids and in addition served on the Board of Visitors Of Wayne State University's Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development. She is the speech-language pathologist consultant for the Parish School and Carruth Center in Houston, Texas, and for the Suburban Speech Center in Short Hills, New Jersey, providing a new consulting opportunity for other small groups of speech and language pathologists known as Therapy Notes from Nancy.
Nancy has been honored by both of her alma maters: she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Wayne State University in 2015 and the Outstanding Alumni Award from Michigan State University in 2010. She was awarded the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) Distinguished Service Award in 2011 and the West Bloomfield Township Chamber of Commerce Community Excellence Business Person of the Year Award in 2015. She was also recognized by the Lawrence Technological University Leaders & Innovators program. The KCC has received MSHA's Clinical Service Award and Corp! Magazine's Best of Michigan Business Award. Nancy has three grown children and resides with her husband in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
