"I really enjoyed learning how I can support people through difficult conversations. I liked learning about ways to support those in a difficult situation." E.M. (Nov. 2023)
"Excellent topic. Very clear and easy to understand." M.S. (Sep. 2023)
"Stuttering counseling was a beneficial topic. I liked the thoroughness of the material and presentation." C.R. (Aug. 2023)
"I liked the counseling techniques and methods for active listening. And learning how our own emotional needs can be supported." K.L. (Mar. 2023)
"Oh my goodness, this was a course full of information. It made me feel as though I am not alone in the questioning of one's self in terms of therapy, some insecurities a therapist may feel. Speaker addressed these things while focusing on the client/patient. So beneficial!" E.W. (Dec. 2022)
"I liked that he spoke on behalf of the client and clinician when speaking about counseling and life and stress etc. Enjoyed going over specific skills of questioning and guidance and what to say and what not to say. It instills confidence since we as clinicians are always self-evaluating in order to do and be our best." E.W. (Dec. 2022)
"All of it was beneficial." A.D. (Dec. 2022)
"I would highly recommend this course." K.G. (Nov. 2022)
"The speaker was focused and organized. I enjoyed the discussion of counseling." E.O. (May 2022)
"This course gave specific techniques to improve my counseling skills. It was very functional, and in an area I think is lacking in SLP training." K.K. (May 2022)
"Organized and concise. I liked the counseling information, professional boundaries, and approaches discussed." D.Z. (Feb. 2022)
"Going over the tools and defense mechanism, as well as explicitly stated do's and dont's were most helpful. I liked that it was a true structured course and not fluff. I felt truly intellectually stimulated by the content and felt like I actually learned something useful." C.P. (Dec. 2021)
"This covered a part of SLP therapy that I had never studied." E.S. (Dec. 2021)
"I liked the focus on ourselves as clinicians at the end. Rarely have I had a CEU course that highlighted how to take care of ourselves and it was really refreshing." K.W. (Dec. 2021)

"Very useful information relating to professional ethics. Content was easy to follow." S.C. (Dec. 2021)

"I really appreciated the clarity with which the information was explained and how diagrams, pictures, and graphs were used to supplement the verbal explanations." C.H. (Oct. 2021)
"I liked the presenter's caring tone, and of course, I appreciated him sharing his clinical & counseling expertise. Also, I liked that the course was easy to complete from home." J.D. (Oct. 2021)
"Specific language to utilize to address challenges with patient's without moving outside of scope of practice. The course was framed to address a variety of disorders, settings, and patient populations." C.H. (Oct. 2021)
"I appreciate ALL of the examples of wording that is most helpful to the patient and their family in various situations. As well as the reminders of wording that is not helpful, or is patronizing, condescending, offensive, and minimizing. I did not expect it to have the short section on therapist burn-out and self-care. This was a great bonus to the course." P.D. (Sept. 2021)
"Had a personal dynamic to what we do - dealing with people and everything that comes with that. Speaker's voice and tone was very pleasant. Covered a wide range of interesting topics related to counseling." S.J. (Sept. 2021)
"Much good advice – using silence to encourage pt communication, deescalating an angry patient/family member, positioning myself and the pt safely in the room, counter questioning, suicide information, concern for myself to prevent burnout. It was thorough and sequential." J.K. (Aug. 2021)
"The section about how to deal with an angry client and/or family member was beneficial for my daily practice. I liked that I could take it at my own pace and re-listen to sections several times if I needed to." A.R. (Jul. 2021)
"I liked the different counseling approaches with example dialogues. Course provided a thorough background of different counseling philosophies and their application to Speech-Language therapy." A.C. (Jun. 2021)
"This course taught me that, as an SLP, it is appropriate to counsel patients! It's important to be empathic while remaining professional. It's important to take time to really listen to patients & families and help them through the significant life event they are facing. Also, I liked the reminder that it is important to care for yourself in order to provide better care to patients and prevent burnout." J.D. (Apr. 2021)

ASHA CEUs: NSS online courses are registered with ASHA and are offered for ASHA CEUs. The number of ASHA CEUs is noted above. Note that 0.1 ASHA CEU = 1 contact hour = equals 1 CEE.
ASHA CE Registry: During the enrollment process, if you select to receive ASHA credit for this course and if you provide your ASHA number, NSS will automatically submit your CEU information to the ASHA CE Registry after successful course completion (80% on post test). This submission happens once per month, during the first week of the month. For example, if you complete your course on November 7th, NSS will submit all November online course CEUs to ASHA during the first week of December. When ASHA inputs the information into their database, they will mark the course as completed on the last day of the month in which it was completed, so November 30th using this example. The certificate of completion available for you to print immediately, however, will reflect the actual completion date, November 7th in this example. Due to ASHA processing procedures please allow 2-3 weeks, from the submission date, for the course to appear on your ASHA transcript.
If an attendee is not an ASHA member or CCC holder but meets any of the above criteria, they may inform the ASHA CE Registry of their eligibility by visiting this site.
