Presenter: Jennifer L. Schultz, MA, CCC-SLP

This presentation will provide participants with a framework for developing communication goals based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) using children's literature as the context for intervention. Specific Phonemic Awareness, Listening and Speaking, and Language domain standards will be reviewed, and a specific sample IEP objective will be provided based on each standard.
Each standard/IEP goal will be linked to one or more specific picture books that can be used to address the target communication skill during shared reading activities and additional extension activities after reading. Texts from a variety of genres and reading levels will be presented. Resources for identifying vocabulary and language structures appropriate for specific communication goals and grade levels will be identified. Course focus is students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Offered for 0.3 ASHA CEUs – 3 contact hours.
